This holiday villa for rental in Bedar sleeps 9 with four bedrooms and a study/bedroom in the cortijo.
Welcome to your own corner of paradise! Completely private cortijo set among orange groves and overlooking the village of Bédar with excellent views of the Sierra Cabrera mountain range and the Mediterranean sea.
This refurbished luxury 5 bedroom cortijo features numerous orange, lemon, olive and almond terraces on a two acre site. There's a choice of east facing paved terraces around the cortijo offering a shaded or sunny aspect and a traditionally built-in pizza oven and barbecue; perfect to try out homemade pizza or barbecued whole trout with freshly picked lemons from the gardens.
Please be aware that access to the cortijo is down a steep private road which isn't suitable for novice drivers or minibuses.
Cortijo El Azahar (which means orange blossom) is a fifteen minute walk from the pretty village of Bédar which has a selection of bars/restaurants a couple of supermarkets a panaderia (bakers) a pharmacy, estate agents and bank. There's also an arts and crafts centre (Bédar Arts Centre) offering ceramics and painting on selected mornings a gym and a municipal outdoor swimming pool.
Bédar was a centre for mining in the 19th century and where once railways took iron ore to the port at Garrucha in their place are a variety of easy walks/cycle paths encompassing the villages of Los Pinos, Serena and Bédar itself.
Mojacar Playa with its beaches and beach bars is only 25 minutes by car. There are also good beaches at Garrucha and a designated "naturist zone" at Vera, however if you head south into the Cabo de Gata National Park you'll find various 'off-the-beaten-track' isolated sandy beaches. Las Negras is great for snorkelling and you can hire kayak's, paddle boards or try out scuba diving! whilst San José is a family-friendly village with a choice of gently sloping, well maintained beaches and some great seafront, seafood restaurants.
In Bédar you have two small supermarkets SuperClara and Javier's for all your essentials plus there's a bread shop down towards the town hall. The next closest supermarket is in Turre called SuperTurre. It's an Aladdin’s cave where you can buy everything!!. Elsewhere there's a Mecadona on Mojácar Playa, in Garrucha and Puerto Ray, all of which have good fish counters. There is also a retail fish market just off the main street in Garrucha 'el mercado de pescado'. Garrucha also has a Lidl. Just be aware that many shops close between 14:00 and 16:00/17:00 each day.
